The Fastshifter Deck Soft Tape – Joist Tape 80mm × 20m is supplied in a 80 mm × 20 m roll. FastShifter Deck Soft Tape is a single-sided adhesive joist tape with a soft, cushioning core. It offers a butyl alternative with noticeably better acoustic damping — the choice where a deck sits over a balcony, a habitable room or any space where footfall noise carries.

A deck substructure is exposed to standing water at every fixing point. Joist tape is the cheapest single upgrade you can make to a deck: a roll costs a fraction of the boards, and it is what decides whether the frame lasts five years or twenty.

Where it is used

• On top of every joist and bearer before the boards go down.
• Over aluminium and galvanised steel joists, to isolate dissimilar materials.

Installation

Wipe the joist clean and dry. Roll the tape along the centre of the joist face, peel the liner progressively and press down firmly as you go. Overlap joints by 50 mm and fold the tape down over cut ends. Fix the boards straight through the tape — the butyl seals around every screw shank.
