Fastshifter Top-Tier Adhesive Joist Tape 50mm × 20m

The Fastshifter Top-Tier Adhesive Joist Tape 50mm × 20m is supplied in a 50 mm × 20 m roll. FastShifter Top-Tier is the reinforced version of the butyl joist tape. It bonds harder, resists mechanical damage better and carries a textured surface that stops boards micro-sliding on the joist — the movement behind most deck creaks and loosened screws.

A deck substructure is exposed to standing water at every fixing point. Joist tape is the cheapest single upgrade you can make to a deck: a roll costs a fraction of the boards, and it is what decides whether the frame lasts five years or twenty.

Where it is used

• On top of every joist and bearer before the boards go down.
• Over aluminium and galvanised steel joists, to isolate dissimilar materials.
• On cut ends and notches, where timber is most vulnerable.
• On ledger boards and any timber fixed against a wall.
• Standard single joists — 50 mm covers a typical 45–50 mm joist face.

Installation

Wipe the joist clean and dry. Roll the tape along the centre of the joist face, peel the liner progressively and press down firmly as you go. Overlap joints by 50 mm and fold the tape down over cut ends. Fix the boards straight through the tape — the butyl seals around every screw shank.
